Choosing electroplating metal anodes for industrial processes is no small feat. There's a lot to be considered. Here are a few questions to ask yourself when you are choosing the best anodes for your project. 

How important is corrosion resistance?

Corrosion resistance is highly important for some industrial or manufacturing processes. For example, if your business produces encasements for transformers that will be pole mounted, these things have to be highly resistant to corrosion. Therefore, the type of electroplating metal anodes that are used in the production process can be something that is extremely important to consider. Remember, some base metals are more easily corroded than others. For instance, nickel stands up pretty well to moisture and even salt, but something like baseline steel metal does not. Go with an anode type that boasts the corrosion resistance you need. 

Is the hardness of the finish going to be a pertinent factor?

Every electroplating metal anode is going to have a different degree of hardness. These metal pieces are created primarily from the metal of the name they bear, so they will carry those hardness qualities. Naturally, some metal anodes have a harder finish when they are applied than others. In some cases, the hardness factor will not be so important, but in others, it can be the most important thing to consider. Metals like magnesium and nickel can be softer than something like steel or titanium, so you do have to be careful about what you use. 

What kind of budget are you working with?

Even though costs should never be the primary determining factor when choosing the best electroplating anodes, it is something that any industrial manufacturer has to take into consideration. Some anode materials are far more expensive than others, especially if you have to use a lot of the material to finish pieces. Nickel is a good example of a more inexpensive material where electroplating anodes are concerned. It is usually a more desirable option over something like brass specifically for this reason. 

Is the quality of the finish a big deal?

The quality of the finish once an anode is used can vary depending on the application process, but it can also vary according to the metal type in the anode. If you go with a steel anode, you are likely going to get a shiny silver finish. On the other hand, if you are using electroplating nickel anodes, you are going to get a more matte sheen.
